DC Kathua chairs District Road Safety Meet; focus on decongesting roads and enhancing commuter safety

Kathua, May 06: A meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was held today under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Dr. Rakesh Minhas at the DC Office Complex.The meeting was attended by Executive Engineers of PWD (R&B) Kathua, Basohli, Billawar and Hiranagar, representatives from Degree Colleges, BRO, Police, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and other concerned departments.Detailed discussions were held regarding the initiation of corrective and safety measures at vulnerable spots. Emphasis was also laid on ensuring smooth plying of transport near congested locations and enhancing commuter safety at critical points such as the Bus Stand and GMC Kathua.Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that road safety demands the effective implementation of measures to make roads safer, thereby reducing mishaps, injuries and fatalities. He stated that the district administration has developed a workable plan to enhance the overall road safety scenario, which requires the active cooperation of all stakeholders.The DC urged the citizens of Kathua to strictly follow traffic rules and contribute towards a smooth and congestion-free traffic environment. He directed the Executive Engineers of PWD (R&B) and PMGSY to ensure regular maintenance of roads to help prevent accidents.Stressing the importance of public awareness, the DC called for mass sensitization regarding traffic safety rules. He also instructed concerned departments to take immediate steps to decongest city roads and facilitate smooth vehicle movement. Furthermore, he directed the MVA and traffic authorities to strictly enforce traffic laws and take stern action against violators.
