KATHUA, JANUARY 20:- To commemorate the 76th Republic Day celebrations, Gurj Division of Rising Star Corps organised “Know Your Army Mela” on 20 January 2025 at Kathua Stadium. The event proved to be a powerful platform to motivate the youth and bring them closer to the national mainstream.
The event was attended by Deputy Commissioner Kathua, District Information Officer, ASP Kathua, Principal GMC Kathua and teachers from several schools. Apart from this, more than 700 students from eight different schools, children from 50 Gujjar and Bakarwal families, 250 civilians and 15 ex-servicemen also attended the event.

The youth participated in the event with zeal and enthusiasm and enjoyed the thrilling martial performances like the fiery Khukri dance by Gurkha soldiers, traditional Mallakhamb by Maratha soldiers and Gatka by Sikh warriors. The event provided visitors with a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the life and traditions of the Indian Army.
A wide range of military equipment including infantry, artillery, armoured vehicles and surveillance systems were showcased at the event. These included T-72 tanks, ICV Mk III, artillery field guns, medium range radars, weapon identification radars, small arms and newly-inducted vehicles. These exhibits highlighted the advancements in weapon systems, protection and mobility of the Army.
The event provided the youth with a deep insight into the equipment, capabilities and traditions of the Army and left a lasting impact on them. The youth showed keen interest in joining the armed forces and serving the country. Around 500 students thronged the stall to get information about the recruitment schemes in the Indian Army, where informative booklets were distributed to the students.
