Kathua, January 31: according to Police Press release In a swift and efficient operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kathua successfully foiled an ATM theft attempt at Chann Arorian, Rajbagh, leading to the arrest of two hardcore interstate thieves and the recovery of three stolen vehicles.
Police Operation and Arrests
Acting on intelligence and vigilance, a police team led by SHO PS Rajbagh, under the supervision of SP Operations Border, SDPO Border Chadwal, and overall guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua, Sh. Shobhit Saksena (IPS), managed to nab the accused before they could execute their crime.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Jatinder Singh, son of Sukhvinder Singh
- Saron, son of Maqbool Masih
Both are residents of Batala, Tehsil Batala, District Gurdaspur, Punjab.
Foiled Attempt and Recoveries
The accused were caught red-handed while attempting to break open an SBI ATM at Chann Arorian, Rajbagh. The timely intervention by the alert police personnel on duty prevented the theft and led to their immediate arrest.
During further investigation, the police recovered three stolen vehicles from their possession:
- Scooty (JK02BL-5456)
- Scooty (JK02CF-7239)
- Motorcycle (JK02BN-9325)
The case has been registered under FIR No. 18/2025 U/S 331(4), 62 BNS at PS Rajbagh, and authorities have indicated that more recoveries are expected as the investigation progresses.

Speaking on the incident, SSP Kathua, Sh. Shobhit Saksena (IPS), praised the prompt action of the police team, emphasizing their commitment to curbing crime and ensuring the safety of residents. He further assured that investigations are ongoing, and additional recoveries are anticipated.
The arrest of these interstate criminals is being seen as a major success for the J&K Police, demonstrating their readiness and efficiency in preventing crime and maintaining law and order in the region.
