BANI, FEBRUARY 26:- The festival of Mahashivratri was celebrated with great religious enthusiasm and devotion in Bani, a town in the Kathua district. The festival saw active participation from people of all age groups, including children, women, and the elderly.Since early morning, as early as 4 AM, devotees thronged the temples, offering milk and water to the Shivling while chanting “Om Namah Shivaya” and adorning it with Bel Patra. The entire district witnessed a surge of devotees visiting Shiva temples, where devotional songs, Like Bhajan, echoed throughout the day. The temples were beautifully decorated, adding to the spiritual ambiance. Additionally, several community kitchens (Bhandaras) were organized, distributing prasad to the devotees.

Speaking on the occasion, local residents including Atul Khajuria, Jiya Lal, Rita Thakur, and Thakur Dass mentioned that special arrangements had been made in the temples for the devotees. They emphasized that prayers and rituals would continue throughout the night, from evening till morning.

A grand procession (Shobha Yatra) was also taken out by devotees, passing through the main market of Bani. People showered flowers on the procession as it moved along. The rally concluded at the Shiva temple, marking the end of the religious celebrations.

Adding to the festive spirit, the traditional Kud dance was also performed, captivating the audience with its energetic and rhythmic movements. The performance highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the region and added a unique charm to the celebrations.
