J&K to have a new transport policy soon; draft sent to administrative department for review: Commissioner, Vishesh Paul Mahajan

Jammu, Jan 17: Transport Commissioner, J&K, Vishesh Paul Mahajan Friday stated that the Union Territory was all set to have a new Transport policy, the draft of which was sent to the Administrative Department for review.

With regard to the transport subsidy scheme, he has pointed out that it was eliciting a very positive response.  According to him, under the scheme, response was overwhelming in Jammu from where 100 applications were received. Scheme pertains to the plan to phase out 15 years old vehicles.

Under the scheme, owners of buses, minibuses can seek subsidies by scrapping their old vehicles.

With regard to traffic rules, he reiterated cautions and warned that violators would face strict action. “Violators’ licence will be cancelled and vehicles can also be seized,” he cautioned.

Mahajan also warned those resorting to stunt biking. “Parents should understand their responsibility and keep their wards in check. Action will follow in case of rule violation as there can be no compromise with the lives of citizens,” he stated.
