&K Weather: Torrential Rain Wreaks Havoc in Ramban, 3 Dead; Schools Closed in Valley Today

RAMBAN, APRIL 21:-Several parts of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed heavy torrential rains on Sunday, leading to flash floods and landslides, with the Ramban district being one of the worst-hit due to the inclement weather.

At least three people were killed in the Ramban district after their homes were swept away in a landslide in the Bagna village area.

About 30 houses were washed away, vehicles destroyed, and the 250 km-long Jammu-Srinagar highway (NH44) was blocked from both ends.IMD had warned of heavy to very heavy rain over the Union territory earlier in the week. BUN had reported on April 16 that a western disturbance was approaching the Western Himalayan region, with the weather turning hostile, especially over Jammu & Kashmir, from April 18 to 20.

Authorities on Sunday announced that all government and private educational institutions including schools, colleges and technical educational institutions in Ramban district will remain closed on Monday in view of the inclement weather.

Deputy Commissioner Ramban, in a post on X said: “In view of inclement weather and heavy rain causing flash floods, all Govt and Private Schools, Colleges & Technical Education Institutions of district Ramban shall remain closed on 21.04.2025. Stay indoors, stay safe!”Earlier in the day, a cloudburst triggered flash floods near Chenab Bridge in Dharamkund area, leaving three people dead and causing significant damage to several houses.

Around 90 to 100 people trapped in the flooded area were rescued safely by police teams, while relief and assessment efforts are still underway.
