Kathua witnesses intensified awareness activities under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and World No Tobacco Day

KATHUA, MAY 30: As part of the ongoing 100 Days Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and observance of World No Tobacco Day, a series of awareness programmes, pledge-taking ceremonies, lectures, signature campaigns, quizzes, and community outreach activities were organised across various educational institutions, health establishments, government offices, and community centres in Kathua district.

At Government Degree College Mahanpur, a Drug Awareness Signature Campaign was organised to sensitise students and staff about the harmful effects of substance abuse. Participants actively joined the campaign and took a collective pledge to support a drug-free society.

World No Tobacco Day was observed in several educational institutions including GHSS Budhi, Govt. PM SHRI High School Panyalag, Govt. High School Sherpur, UPS Badrah, and HS Hote. Students and staff members took pledges to abstain from tobacco and other harmful substances while spreading awareness regarding the adverse health impacts of tobacco consumption.

A Quiz Competition on Health Awareness was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School Durang under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Students from different houses participated enthusiastically, demonstrating their knowledge on health and wellness issues. Similar awareness activities were also organised at Government Higher Secondary School Basantpur and Atal Tinkering Lab Hiranagar, where students were educated about the importance of healthy and addiction-free lifestyles.

Awareness-cum-pledge drives were held by the District Industries Centre (DIC) Kathua at industrial units across the district, while Municipal Committee Billawar organised awareness activities promoting the message of a drug-free society. Awareness programmes were also conducted in Cluster-D of Block Duggan and at Ramkot to educate local communities about the dangers of substance abuse.

The AYUSH Department organised awareness lectures, camps, and pledge-taking ceremonies at Ayush Unit Kathua, AAM Dhar Mahanpur, and SDH Basohli, reaching beneficiaries from different sections of society and reinforcing the collective commitment towards a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.

An awareness lecture was also organised at Village Muthi, where members of the general public and parents were sensitised about the harmful effects of drug abuse, the role of families in prevention, and the need to guide children towards positive and healthy pursuits. Participants took a pledge to support the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and actively spread awareness in their communities.

The programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, staff members, officials, healthcare workers, industrial employees, parents, and members of the general public. Speakers highlighted the physical, psychological, social, and economic consequences of substance abuse and stressed the importance of collective community action in achieving the goal of a drug-free society.

The participants reaffirmed their commitment to the vision of Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir and pledged to act as ambassadors of awareness within their respective communities.
