KATHUA, MAY 28:- In a progressive move toward boosting rural entrepreneurship through cooperative models, the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) Salore marked the grand opening of its new bakery unit, “Cakes & Bakes – Taste of Sahkar”, in Nagrota Gujroo today.
The venture represents a dynamic shift in the role of cooperatives, stepping beyond traditional agriculture to create sustainable and diversified livelihood opportunities.The inauguration ceremony was held with much enthusiasm and was presided over by Shri Narayan Dutt Tripathi, Hon’ble DDC Member, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his address, he commended the Salore PACS for its innovative approach and underscored the crucial role of cooperatives in fostering self-reliance and economic growth in rural areas.

The event was also attended by Tasbina Sheikh, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Kathua, along with Assistant Registrars from both Kathua and Samba districts, reflecting the strong institutional support behind cooperative-driven innovation.Speaking at the occasion, Tasbina Sheikh expressed her appreciation for the initiative:“The launch of ‘Cakes & Bakes – Taste of Sahkar’ is a commendable effort that reflects the evolving role of cooperatives in our society. By focusing on women and youth empowerment through skill development and entrepreneurship, this unit sets a new benchmark for rural enterprise. The Department of Cooperative Societies remains committed to nurturing such grassroots-level ventures that bring meaningful change to local communities.”
The newly launched bakery is part of the broader “Taste of Sahkar” brand—an initiative aimed at promoting high-quality products made through cooperative enterprises. With a focus on training and employing local youth and women, the unit aspires to build both a successful business and a community-centered economic model.This launch comes at a significant time, aligning with the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, and demonstrates how grassroots cooperatives are transforming into vibrant business ecosystems that cater to evolving rural needs.
