BASHOLI, JULY 01:- The grand two-day Chhinj Mela kicked off in Mashka with great enthusiasm, celebrating traditional folk culture and wrestling. The event was inaugurated by Thakur Darshan Singh, MLA from Basohli. Speaking at the sacred site of Jai Baba Lakhdata, the MLA described the fair as a symbol of the region’s rich cultural identity.
While encouraging the organizing committee, local people, and artists, he said, “This fair represents our culture, traditions, and unity. Events like this play a crucial role in connecting the youth to their roots. Every possible support will be provided in the future to make this fair even more grand and successful.”

The first day witnessed a massive turnout with thousands of attendees enjoying vibrant cultural performances rooted in Dogri, Himachali, and Punjabi traditions. Popular artists like Suresh Kumar, Pushpa Devi, Ishant Bhardwaj, and Vishal Thakur lit up the stage with energetic performances.
Babli Devi, one of the attendees, said, “Every year, this fair brings something new. This time, the essence of Dogri culture truly touched my heart.”
Mela Turns into Hub of Employment and Tourism
Mela Convenor Sushil Kumar Nayar shared that the Mashka Chhinj Mela has evolved beyond a religious celebration to become a key driver of economic and tourism growth. Local vendors, fruit orchard owners, and transport services are benefiting directly from the event.

The highlight of the second day, on July 2 at 3 PM, will be the traditional wrestling competition featuring renowned wrestlers from across different states. The winner will be awarded a cash prize of ₹51,000.
