BANI, MARCH 22:- In a remarkable display of courage and swift response, troops of the Indian Army’s Rising Star Corps carried out a high-risk night rescue operation to save an injured engineer stranded in the snowbound heights of Chattergala Pass, situated at an altitude of approximately 10,500 feet (around 3,200 meters) in the Middle Himalayas, connecting Bhaderwah with Bani of Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir.

The injured, identified as Pawan Thakur, was working at the Pakal Dul Hydroelectric Project. He met with a serious accident while traveling from Guldanda to his hometown Bani. During the journey, he reportedly slipped and fell nearly 20–25 meters into a deep nala in the treacherous terrain, sustaining multiple injuries and becoming trapped amid extreme weather conditions.

Despite sub-zero temperatures, heavy snowfall, and near-zero visibility, Thakur managed to alert a nearby Army camp in Sarthal. Acting promptly, Army troops launched an immediate rescue operation under extremely challenging conditions.

Navigating through snowbound terrain in the dead of night, the rescue team reached the injured engineer, who was experiencing breathing difficulties and back injuries. The troops administered critical first aid on the spot and, demonstrating exceptional endurance, successfully evacuated him to safety at around 1:30 AM on the intervening night of March 21–22.

He was later shifted to the Sub-District Hospital Bani in coordination with local authorities for further medical treatment.

Expressing heartfelt gratitude, Thakur credited the Indian Army for saving his life. “I wouldn’t have survived if the Army had not reached me in time,” he said, praising the swift and relentless efforts of the rescue team.

The operation once again highlights the Indian Army’s enduring ethos of Service Before Self, as its personnel continue to perform beyond the call of duty to save lives in some of the most hostile and challenging environments.
