BANI, JANUARY 30 :- Local workers in Bani subdivision staged a protest against the Border Roads Organization (BRO) on Monday, alleging discrimination in employment. The protesters blocked the Bani-Bhaderwah road at Lowang and raised slogans at Lowang, demanding priority in road construction work.
Protesters Mohammad Ashraf, Mohammad Rafiq, and Javed Ahmed stated that earlier, local workers were given priority in BRO projects, but now they are gradually being sidelined in favor of workers from other states. They alleged that influential people were manipulating the hiring process, which they found unacceptable.
Road Blocked for Three Hours
The workers argued that giving employment opportunities to locals is their right, as it not only strengthens the local economy but also increases job opportunities. The protest led to a three-hour-long road blockade, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Later, the Naib Tehsildar and the BRO officer-in-charge reached the protest site and assured the workers that a committee would be formed to address their concerns. Following this assurance, the protesters ended their agitation and reopened the road for traffic.
