DC Kathua inspects ongoing bridge work over Pedu Nallah at Mahanpur

Kathua, August 10: Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, today conducted an inspection of the ongoing construction work of the bridge over Pedu Nallah at Mahanpur, being executed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).The DC was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Vishavjeet Singh, XEN PWD Billawar,Tehsildar and BDO Mahanpur.During the visit, the DC directed the executing agency to expedite the pace of work and ensure completion and full operationalisation of the bridge by August 20, 2025. BRO officials apprised the DC that one-way movement of light motor vehicles has already been allowed through the newly constructed bridge. For heavy vehicles, a diversion was created; however, it was inundated due to recent rains. The BRO assured that the diversion will be restored after clearance of mud and debris to facilitate smooth vehicular movement.The DC emphasised that timely completion of the bridge will significantly improve connectivity, ensure uninterrupted movement of people and goods, and provide much-needed relief to commuters affected by the disruption.Pertinently, the bridge over Pedu Nallah – a vital link for commuters on the Mahanpur–Basohli axis, was completely damaged recently due to heavy rainfall and landslides.
